The alarm clock goes off or the music starts playing on the radio to wake you up to a new day!!! 🙂
Oh, the groans we make as we turn over in the bed, mumbling under neath the covers; “That night was too short. Please let me sleep a little longer! ” Oh, no you don’t. You have a new day. A gift from God. Another day filled with time. Time to do what?
Please allow me to share:
It was a few years ago and I was flying to speak at a ladies conference in Toronto, Canada. A business man sat down beside me and started a conversation with small talk: Where are you from? What do you do for a living- family etc.? He was on his way to speak at a business conference on motivating business people to expand their businesses and grow their capital. Then he shared this illustration with me that he was going to give in his speech.
Beside your bed on your night stand, is a bank deposit bag. In the bag is $86,400. Beside the bag was a note that said that you have received this money and have one day to spend it. You only had that day, but you could spend it however you wanted; but at the end of 24 hrs, whatever money was not spent, had to be returned to the deposit bag. You could not save any of the money for the next day. Wow, can our minds run with that information! It wouldn’t take long to decide what all we would do with that cash: pay bills and more bills, shop until you drop kind of day! Yes!! Let’s go!! We would go until we could not go anymore. So at the end of the day- any money left? If so, it goes in the bag. You are exhausted! You climb into bed between those comfy sheets and you are out.
The next morning, you wake up- glance over at the bank deposit bag and notice it looks like there is something else in the bag. You open it. More money! You anxiously count it out and there is another $86,400 to spend, with another note that you have 24 hrs. to spend this money but at the end of this time, if you have not spent all of it, you must return the money to the bag. You can not save it for another day. You jump out of bed as fast as you can and start another fabulous spending day. I mean the sky looks brighter and prettier than ever before. Your family is awesome. You have a super generous attitude. You have such a joyful spirit about your life. Wow! It can’t get better than this!!!! You feel like you are in a dream. A week goes by and there is $86,400 in the bank deposit bag on the night stand every single morning, just waiting to be spent.
Ok, reader, you are probably saying, “Time for Reality check”. “Get real!” “The dream is over”. “Great story coming from a successful business man.”
But wait, my friend, the business man went on to say that his motivation speech was to remind people that at the beginning of a new day, we all have 24 hours to do what we need to do. We all have 60 minutes in every hour and we have 60 seconds in every minute. We only have 24 hours to use our 86,400 seconds. At the end of 24 hours, you have to review what you did with your time. You can not save any of the seconds for tomorrow.
So, what do you do with the gift of time God gives you when you wake up? Is the sky beautiful and bright? Is your family still awesome? Do you still have a generous attitude? Do you have a joyful spirit about your life?
It is your new day!!! What are you going to do with it?
“This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24a
