Just before the clock strikes midnight and we welcome in the New Year; our family tradition has been to line the chairs up, get the pots and pans out of the cupboard and snatch a wooden spoon out of the kitchen drawer. We then stand on the chairs awaiting the exciting time of midnight. When it happens, we then jump off the chairs, grab out pots, pans and spoons, run out the front door banging as hard as we can shouting, “Happy New Year”!! After a couple of minutes, acting crazy, we walk back into the house, laughing, hugging each other and then giving a New Year’s kiss to the hubby.
Yes, we have been doing this activity for the past few years and we look forward to doing it. The meaning behind the jumping and banging? We are “jumping” into the New Year with a “bang”!
How exciting to have something new: a car, a stove, an outfit, new washer, dryer and on and on. We always pledge to wash the car every weekend, take care of the outfit that makes you look great and also the fact that you got it from the Christmas clearance rack.
Moms, we look at 2016 and it is new and fresh and has never been before. We can have a great start. It is a good time to renew some things we want to improve. Everyone may ask what your New Year’s resolution would be, well, you can decide what you want to do, but please realize that if those ideas fade after a week or so, do not give up. You have to realize that God gives us new starts every time we wake up in the morning, every new hour of that day, time you have not had before.
I do challenge you to set some goals such as: give your child a kiss at bedtime, share a Bible story, get up earlier to have some quiet time before the day begins, be early for work, tell your loved ones how much they mean to you. Ask the Lord to help you do something for someone who doesn’t expect something from you. These things will warm your heart.
I hope you realize how much you mean to your family and most of all, to God.
My challenges for me in this New Year are:
Seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteous judgements Psalms 119:164
This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalms 118:24
Moms, take one day at a time, every day is a new beginning. God has a plan for you and He planned it just for you. Enjoy life. Enjoy and love your family. Trials and challenges may come, but in light of eternity, you can make it through with God’s love, and guidance.
Have a Happy New Year!!!!
